Ipswich Outdoor Group Conga World Record For Toni

Story

On 28 April 2019 at 11.00, members of the Ipswich Outdoor Group will be attempting a new world record! We will be dancing the conga along a section of Felixstowe seafront, starting outside the Leisiure Centre near the pier. The current record is approximately 7.5 miles set in Brighton in 2016. We will be wearing colourful costumes and dancing to conga music. Members of the public are also welcome to join the back of the line. In doing so we hope to raise much needed funds for St. Elizabeth Hospice who provide exceptional love and care and who were so wonderful in looking after Toni. St. Elizabeth's Hospice requires £10.5 million per annum to provide their services both at the hospice and in the community. Most of this comes from public donations. Every donation however small is appreciated. Thank you!

An amazing day at the seaside!

29th April 2019
The Ipswich Outdoor Group only went and did it. And did it in style. Five and a half hours and 11 miles of spectacular conga madness. So proud of this group of people who have given up their spare time preparing, planning and practising and then putting on a show in all weathers. We will have to wait a few weeks for official verification from the Guinness Book of Records but whatever they say they can't take this memory away. Donations are still coming in and have topped £2300 now including £681 collected from the public on the day. Thank you every single one of you for your generosity. Toni, look what you inspired!

Final Practice

26th April 2019
Donations for the conga event have now exceeded £500 thanks to your generosity. Along with lovely messages of support this gives us a real boost for Sunday. We have practised hard for weeks. After finalising the filming details on Thursday evening on the seafront followed by radio interviews on Friday morning we are ready for the challenge!

Conga in the Lake District

25th April 2019
Many Ipswich Outdoor Group members went up to the Lakes over Easter. That didn't stop some of them from practising the conga. Up a mountain! Such dedication.

11 Days to go!

17th April 2019
It is wonderful that so many people are supporting us! Rachael has been sewing around the clock to get the costumes completed; Simon has alerted the media and paparazzi. We have a filming crew and a rickshaw to film from and lots of volunteers to collect donations and marshal the crowds. We still need volunteers on the day and help out so please come along and be part of it. The generosity of supporters is amazing. Thank you to everybody that has donated. As of today you have helped us raise £455 for the hospice! Many thanks to Suffolk Rickshaw Compnay https://www.suffolkrickshaws.co.uk And to Steve who will be our official photographer. http://www.photographybystevenhitchman.co.uk/
